In February of 2020, I was commissioned by a friend's father to work on his business's logo and branding. He is an avid fly fisherman who crafts his own bamboo fishing rods with painstaking care and detail. Eventually, he wants to serve as a fishing tour guide in Martha's Vineyard. Directly below is the end result of rounds of sketches and concepts.
The word Tanamakoon comes from my client's family cabin. I explored both representing the rod and the cabin as a means to convey the outfitter spirit.
My client had heart for the rod design but asked if we could depict the bamboo's flexibility and dynamics.
In the final round, I added the context of a fish to help ground the line and balance out the shape. In the end, he chose one of the below!
